The Standing Committee on Finance met at 4:39 p.m. this day, in Room 701 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Roy Cullen, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Roy Cullen, Rodger Cuzner, Rahim Jaffer, Sophia Leung, John McKay, Massimo Pacetti, Pierre Paquette, Alex Shepherd, Monte Solberg and Robert Thibault.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Claude Drouin for Nick Discepola, Shawn Murphy for Gary Pillitteri and Julian Reed for Hon. Maria Minna.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal; Blayne Haggart, Analyst; Stephen Laurent, Analyst. House of Commons: Jean-Michel Roy, Legislative Clerk.

 

Appearing: Hon. John McKay, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance.

 

Witnesses: Department of Finance: Emmy Verdun, Director, International Trade Policy Division. House of Commons: Diane Ablonczy, M.P., Calgary—Nose Hill. Canadian Institute of Actuaries: David Pelletier, Immediate Past President.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, February 25, 2004, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-21, An Act to amend the Customs Tariff.
 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

Clause 1 carried.

 

Clause 2 carried.

 

The Bill carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill to the House.

 

At 4:47 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:54 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, February 2, 2004, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-421, An Act respecting the establishment of the Office of the Chief Actuary of Canada and to amend other Acts in consequence thereof.
 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

The Short Title carried.

 

The Title carried.

 

Clauses 2 to 7 inclusive carried severally.

 

Clause 8 carried on division.

 

Clauses 9 to 26 inclusive carried severally.

 

The Bill carried.
