The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Robert Bertrand, Ivan Grose, Joe McGuire, Louis Plamondon, David Pratt, Elsie Wayne.

Acting Members present: Roy Bailey for Rob Anders; Bob Wood for David Price.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Reasearch Officer.

Appearing: From the House of Commons: Hon. Rey Pagtakhan, Minister of Veterans Affairs.

Witnesses: From the Department of Veterans Affairs: Jack Stagg, Deputy Minister; Verna Bruce, Associate Deputy Minister; Brian Ferguson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Veterans Services; Robert Hamilton, Director General, Finance Division. From the Veterans Review & Appeal Board: Victor Marchand, Acting Chair.

Pursuant to an Order of the House dated Wednesday, February 26, 2003, consideration of the Estimates 2003-2004 - Votes 1, 5 and 10 under Veterans Affairs.

The Minister made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
