Tuesday, April 29, 2003
The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, David Pratt, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Leon Benoit, Bill Blaikie, Cheryl Gallant, Dominic LeBlanc, Joe McGuire, Anita Neville, David Pratt, David Price.
Acting Member present: Gerry Ritz for Rob Anders.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers; Barry Hamilton, Consultant.
Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Alan Williams, Assistant Deputy Minister, Materiel; Michael J. Slack, Director, Canada-US Materiel Cooperation.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on Canada-United States Defence Cooperation and on other related issues.
Alan Williams made an opening statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.
On motion of Dominic LeBlanc, it was agreed, — That the full text (including pages 1 and 2) of the written statement submitted by Alan Williams be added to the evidence of today’s meeting.
The Committee considered its future business concerning Bill C-31, An Act to amend the Pension Act and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Superannuation Act.
It was agreed, — That the Minister of Veterans Affairs be invited to appear before the Committee.
At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
