Standing Committee on Official Languages met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room
112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Mauril Bélanger, presiding.
Members of the Committee

Witnesses: From the "Société des
acadiens et acadiennes du Nouveau-Brunswick": Denis Duval, political
scientist and economist. From Elections Canada: Jean-Pierre Kingsley,
Chief Electoral Officer; Diane R. Davidson, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer and
Chief Legal Counsel; Caroll Lesage, Director, Parliamentary Representation.
Pursuant to Standing Order
108(3)(d), a briefing session on the concerns of the acadian community
of New-Brunswick about a proposal of redrawing the constituencies of this
province.
Denis Duval made a
statement and answered questions.
Pursuant to Standing Order
108(3)(d), a briefing session on the concept of "community of
interest" that comes from the Electoral Boundaries Readjustment Act.
Jean-Pierre Kingsley made a
statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:41 p.m., the Committee
adjourned to the call of the Chair.
