Meeting No. 25

Tuesday, June 3, 2003

The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Mauril Bélanger, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Eugène Bellemare, Jeannot Castonguay, Yvon Godin, Jason Kenney, Benoît Sauvageau, Raymond Simard  and Yolande Thibeault.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:  Marion Ménard, Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Alliance des producteurs francophones du Canada: Cécile Chevrier, President; Pierre-Raphaël Pelletier, President, Fédération culturelle canadienne française; Robin Cantin, Director of Communications, Fédération des communautés Francophones et Acadienne du Canada; Louis Paquin, Productions Rivard, Winnipeg; Robert Charbonneau, Productions R. Charbonneau, Ottawa; Mark Chatel, Balestra productions. From the Canadian Television Fund: Sandra MacDonald, President and Chief Executive Officer; Louise Baillargeon, Senior Vice-President. From the Department of Canadian Heritage: Michael Wernick, Associate Deputy Minister; Susan Peterson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Cutural Affairs; René Bouchard, Director General, Broadcasting Policy and Innovation; Robert Soucy, Director, Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)d), the Committee commenced a study of the Canadian Television Fund and the production in official language minority communities.

Cecile Chevrier, Pierre-Raphaël Pelletier, Robin Cantin, Louis Paquin, Robert Charbonneau and Mark Chatel made a statement and answered questions.

Sandra MacDonald made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 10:30 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:43 a.m., the sitting resumed.

At 12:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
