The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the acting Chair, John McKay, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Chuck Cadman, Ivan Grose, Derek Lee, Paul Harold Macklin, John Maloney, Richard Marceau, John McKay, Lynn Myers, Kevin Sorenson, Pierrette Venne.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, senior analyst.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Security Intelligence Service: Ward P. Elcock, Director. From Correctional Service Canada: Louise Saint-Laurent, Assistant Commissioner, Corporate Services. From the Department of the Solicitor General: Eva Plunkett, Assistant Deputy Solicitor General, Corporate Management; Patricia J. Hassard, Acting Assistant Deputy Solicitor General, Policing and Law Enforcement; Michel D'Avignon, Director General, National Security Directorate; Chantal Bernier, Assistant Deputy Solicitor General, Strategic Policy and Programs Branch. From the National Parole Board: Helen Chevalier, Executive Director. From the Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Paul Gauvin, Deputy Commissioner, Corporate Management and Comptrollership.
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of Supplementary Estimates (A) 2002-2003: Votes 1a, 10a, 25a, 35a and 40a under Solicitor General, referred to the Committee on October 31, 2002.
Ward P. Elcock and Louise St-Laurent made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 10:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
