The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 9:18 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Hon. Andy Scott, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Chuck Cadman, Marlene Jennings, Derek Lee, Paul Harold Macklin, John Maloney, Richard Marceau, John McKay, Pat O'Brien, Joe Peschisolido, Hon. Andy Scott, Kevin Sorenson.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, senior analyst.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee considered the Process of Private Members' Business.
Garry Breitkreuz moved -- That the Committee examine the options to effectively deal with the massive non-compliance with the firearms registry and consider what the implications non-compliance with the program and the Charter challenges, currently before the courts, may have on the cost and the effectiveness of the program.
After debate, the question was put on the motion and was negatived on the following recorded division:

The Committee resumed consideration of the Process of Private Members’ Business.
Pat O’Brien gave notice of the following motion – That the Chair of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights issue a press release as soon as possible to correct the misperception that the Committee adopted Bill C-250, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (hate propaganda), at committee.
By unanimous consent, it was agreed that the Chair of the
Committee draft a letter to be sent to the Chair of the Standing Committee on
Procedure and House Affairs in relation to the process of Private Members'
Business.
At 10:45 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
