The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Hon. Andy Scott, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: The Hon. Hedy Fry, Marlene Jennings, Derek Lee, Paul Harold Macklin, Richard Marceau, John McKay, Pat O'Brien, The Hon. Andy Scott, Vic Toews.

Acting Member present: Réal Ménard for Robert Lanctôt.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, senior analyst, Kristen Douglas, analyst.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Bar Association: Tamra L. Thomson, Director, Legislation and Law Reform; Patricia LeFebour, Executive Member, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Conference. From the Cosmas and Damian Society: Richard Bastien, Consultant; Dr. John Gay; Dr. Tim Lau.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on marriage and the legal recognition of same-sex unions.

The witnesses made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
