The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Walt Lastewka, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Brian Fitzpatrick, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, Walt Lastewka, Serge Marcil, Brian Masse, Dan McTeague, The Hon. Gilbert Normand, James Rajotte, Brent St. Denis and Joseph Volpe.
Acting Member present: Christiane Gagnon for Paul Crête.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Geoffrey P. Kieley and Dan Shaw, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the National Alliance of Communications Unions: James Kinkaid, Research Department; Brian Payne, President, Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada; Neil Morrison, Vice-President, Telecommunications Workers Union; Ron Carlson, Administrative Vice-President, Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada; Peter Murdoch, Vice-President, Media, Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada. From McGill University: Prof. Richard J. Schultz, James McGill Professor, Department of Political Science.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of Foreign Investment Restrictions Applicable to Telecommunications Common Carriers.
Brian Payne and Professor Richard Schultz each made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
