The Standing Committee on Finance met at 9:01 a.m. this day, in Toronto at the Toronto Congress Centre in Gordon Pinsent 1-2-3 room, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Scott Brison, The Hon. Maria Minna, Charlie Penson,Tony Valeri, Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Member present: Brian Masse for Lorne Nystrom.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Blayne Haggart, Marc-André Pigeon, Research Officers. From the Committees Directorate: Marc-Olivier Girard, Committee Clerk.

Witnesses: From the Association of Canadian Pension Management: Ian Markham, Vice-Chair, Advocacy and Government Relations Committee. From the Canadian Association for Community Living: Michael Bach, Executive Vice-President. From the Canadian Federation of Apartment Associations: Vince Brescia. From the Ontario Hospital Association: Leo Steven, Chair of Board of Directors; David MacKinnon, President and CEO. From the Writers' Union of Canada: Deborah Windsor, Executive Director; Barry Grills, Chair. From the Campaign Against Child Poverty: Caroline Di Giovanni, Director of Public Affairs, Catholic Children's Aid Society; Gerald Vandezande, Spokesperson; Jacquie Maund, Coordinator. From the Canada's Association for the Fifty-Plus: William Gleberzon, Associate Executive Director; Judy Cutler, Director of Communications. From the City of Hamilton: Luciano P. Pursuant to Standing Order 83.1, the Committee continued its pre-budget discussions.

 

Wendy Forsythe, Michael Bach, Vince Brescia, David MacKinnon, Barry Grills, each made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:45 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 10:52 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Caroline Di Giovanni, Jacquie Maund, Judy Cutler, William Gleberzon, Luciano P. Piccioni, W. Jack Millar, Catherine Laidlaw-Sly, Cathy Crowe, Michael Shapcott, each made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
