The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:25 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Scott Brison, Roy Cullen, Nick Discepola, Rahim Jaffer, The Hon. Maria Minna, Shawn Murphy, Tony Valeri, Bryon Wilfert.

Other Member present: Derek Lee.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal Analyst; Marc-André Pigeon, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Federation of Independent Business: Garth Whyte, Executive Vice-President; André Piché, Director, National Affairs. From the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters: Jayson Myers, Senior Vice-President & Chief Economist. From "Conseil du patronat du Québec": Gilles Taillon, President. From the Canadian Dental Association: Andrew Jones, Director, Corporate and Government Relations; Dr. Tom Breneman, President. From the Canadian Executive Council on Addictions: Dan Reist, Treasurer. From the Mining Association of Canada: Dan Paszkowski, Vice-President, Economic Affairs; Gordon Peeling, President and Chief Executive Officer. From the Mood Disorders Society of Canada: Phil Upshall, President; Dr. Rémi Quirion, Scientific Director, Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addictions. Pursuant to Standing Order 83(1), the Committee continued its pre-budget discussions.

Gilles Taillon, Jayson Myers, Garth Whyte, André Piché each made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:55 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:59 p.m., the sitting resumed.

C.A. (Charlie) Pielsticker, Dr. Thomas A. Bruzustowski, Phil Upshall, Dr. Rémi Quirion, Gordon Peeling, Dan Reist, Dr. Tom Breneman, each made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 6:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
