Tuesday, February 25, 2003

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 11:11 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Sarkis Assadourian, John Bryden, Yvon Charbonneau, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Joe Fontana, Massimo Pacetti, Jerry Pickard, Lynne Yelich.

Acting Member present: Andrew Telegdi for David Price.

In attendance:  From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:  Benjamin Dolin, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Delegation from the Government of Australia: The Hon. Gary Hardgrave, Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, Government of Australia; H.E. Tony Hely, High Commissioner, Government of Australia; Kate Wallace, Minister's Senior Adviser, Government of Australia; Peter Vardos, First Assistant Secretary, Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA).

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a meeting with a delegation from the Government of Australia

Hon. Gary Hardgrave made a statement and exchanged views with the members of the Committee.

At 12:40 p.m. the Committee proceeded to sit in Camera.

The Committee discussed their future business.

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
