The Sub-Committee on Human Rights and International Development of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Antoine Dubé, Marlene Jennings, Beth Phinney, Svend Robinson.

Acting Member present: Maurice Vellacott for Deepak Obhrai.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Alternatives Canada: Bashir Abdelgayoum. From the Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives (Kairos): Gary Kenny, Researcher/ Policy Advocate for Human Rights - Africa; Manock Lual, Regional Partnership Coordinator/ Africa. From World Vision Canada: Kathy Vandergrift, Senior Policy Adivisor.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Sub-Committee resumed consideration of its study of human rights, development and other matters in Sudan. (see Minutes of Proceedings, June 6, 2001, Meeting No. 7)

Bashir Abdelgayoum, Gary Kenny, Manock Lual and Kathy Vandergrift each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 5:26 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
