Meeting No. 25

Wednesday, May 22, 2002

The Sub-Committee on Human Rights and International Development of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:45 p.m. this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Irwin Cotler, Antoine Dubé, Marlene Jennings, Deepak Obhrai, Beth Phinney.

Other Member present: Maurice Vellacott.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Lee and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers.

Witnesses: As Individual: The Hon. Lois Wilson, Canada's Former Special Envoy for the Sudan Peace Process; John Harker, African Expert and Author of the 2000 Harker report on Sudan.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of human rights, development and other matters in Sudan.

Lois Wilson made an opening statement and answered questions.

John Harker made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 5:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
