MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 1

Thursday, March 22, 2001

The Special Committee on the Modernization and Improvement of the Procedures of the House of Commons met in camera at 10:10 a.m. this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Chair, Bob Kilger, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Bill Blaikie, Don Boudria, Michel Gauthier, Bob Kilger, Peter MacKay and Chuck Strahl.

The Committee met for the purpose of organisation.

It was agreed, - That the Committee be identified as the Special Committee on the Modernization and Improvement of the Procedures of the House

It was agreed, - That the Committee retain the services of one or more Research Officers from the Library of Parliament, as needed, to assist the Committee in its work, at the discretion of the Chair.

It was agreed, - That the Committee will not meet unless every party has one representative present.

It was agreed, - That, the Clerk of the Committee be authorized to distribute submissions in both official languages.

It was agreed, - That the transcript of all in camera meetings be kept in the committee clerk's office for consultation.

It was agreed, - That the Committee meets in camera.

It was agreed, - That each Committee member be allowed to have up to two staff persons present at the meetings. 

At 10:41 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
