Tuesday, March 19, 2002
The Sub-Committee on Children and Youth at Risk of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Co-Chairs, John Godfrey and Carolyn Bennett, presiding.
Members of the Sub-Committee present: John Godfrey, Monique Guay, Larry Spencer, Diane St-Jacques, Tony Tirabassi and Alan Tonks
Members of the Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities present: Carolyn Bennett and Wendy Lill.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Julie Mackenzie and Bill Young, Research Officers.
Witnesses: As Individual: Wendall Nicholas. From the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne: Joanne Francis, Client Advocate. From the Katenies Research and Management: Dr. Rose-Alma J. McDonald, Consultant for the Mohawk Council of Katenies, and The Assembly of First Nations. From the University of Victoria: Michael Prince, Lansdowne Professor of Social Policy, Faculty of Human and Social Development.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (3)(c) the Sub-Committee on Children and Youth at Risk of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities convened a joint meeting with the Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities to study the status of aboriginal children living on and off reserves and on federal programs available – focus children with disability
It was agreed, – That the Sub-Committee on Children & Youth at Risk invite Tim Sale, Minister of Family Services and Housing, Manitoba to appear before the Sub-Committee.
The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
At 5:26 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
