MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 36

Thursday, December 6, 2001

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Bryden, Gery Byrne, John Finlay, Mac Harb, Rahim Jaffer, Sophia Leung, Pat Martin, Philip Mayfield, Gilles-A. Perron, Beth Phinney, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.

Acting Members present: Anthony Tirabassi for Robert Bertrand, Gar Knutson for John Bryden, Michel Guimond for Odina Desrochers, Carolyn Parish for Shawn Murphy and Stockwell Day for Myron Thompson.

Associate Member present: Stockwell Day.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Michael McLaughlin, Deputy Auditor General; Shahid Minto, Assistant Auditor General.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to consider the December 2001 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

Sheila Fraser made a statement and with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 4:36 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:42 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit In Camera.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to consider the Draft Report of the Advisory Committee on Labour-Management Relations in the Federal Public Service, Working Together in the Public Interest.

It was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the Report, as amended, as the Thirteenth REPORT of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair Table the THIRTEENTH REPORT to the House.

It was agreed, - That a Press Release be issued.

At 4:52 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
