Thursday, April 5, 2001

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:44 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Bryden, John Finlay, Marlene Jennings, Philip Mayfield, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.

Acting Members present: Joe Mcguire for Shawn Murphy; James Moore for Joe Peschisolido.

In attendance: From Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of Health (First Nations and Inuit Health Branch): Ian Potter, Assistant Deputy Minister; Patrick Borbey, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister; Peter Cooney, Acting Director General, Non-Insured Health Benefits; Robert S. Lafleur, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services Branch. From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Maria Barrados, Assistant Auditor General; Ronnie Campbell, Principal, Audit Operations Branch.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to consider Chapter 15 (Health Canada - First Nations Health: Follow-up) of the October 2000 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

Maria Barrados from the Office of the Auditor General made a statement.

Ian Potter from the Department of Health summarized his statement.

The witnesses answered questions.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned until 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2001.
