The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Pierre Brien, John Cannis, Bev Desjarlais, Marlene Jennings, Walt Lastewka, Dan McTeague, James Rajotte, Paddy Torsney and Susan Whelan.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Commercialization of University Research: Pierre Fortier. From the Canada's Role in International Science and Technology: Dr. René Simard, Chair. From the Canadian Association of University Research Administrators: Bruce Hutchinson, Past President. From the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada: Robert J. Giroux, President. From the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada: Dr. Thomas A. Brzustowski, President. From the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada: Dr. Marc Renaud, President; Dr. René Durocher, Executive Director, Canada Research Chairs Program. From the Canadian Institutes of Health Research: Dr. Allan Bernstein, President.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of the Science and Technology Policies:
At 9:00 a.m., the Committee proceeded to the following Roundtable: Research and Development at Universities.
Pierre Fortier, Dr. René Simard, Bruce Hutchinson and Robert J. Giroux each made an opening statement and, answered questions.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of the Science and Technology Policies:
At 10:40 a.m., the Committee proceeded to the following Roundtable: The Three Granting Councils.
Dr. Thomas A. Brzustowski, Dr. Marc Renaud and Dr. Allan Bernstein each made an opening statement and, with Dr. René Durocher answered questions
At 12:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
