The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 9:39 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Carolyn Bennett, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Roy Cullen, Ken Epp, Albina Guarnieri, Yvan Loubier, Lorne Nystrom and Gary Pillitteri.

Acting Member present: Yvon Godin for Lorne Nystrom.

Other Members present: Elsie Wayne, David Jackson.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Marc-André Pigeon, Researcher. From Committees and Parliamentary Associations Directorate: Mike MacPherson.

Witnesses: From the Government of New Brunswick: The Hon. Norman Betts, Minister of Finance. From the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador: The Hon. Joan Marie Aylward, Minister of Finance. From the Government of Nova Scotia: William Hogg, Deputy Minister. From the Government of Prince Edward Island: The Hon. Patricia J. Mella, Provincial Treasurer.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Monday, April 2, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-18, An Act to amend the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, April 24, 2001, Meeting No. 12).

On Clause 1.

The Hon. Joan-Marie Aylward, the Hon. Patricia Mella, William Hogg and the Hon. Norman Betts made statements and answered questions.

At 11:03 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
