The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:43 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, theVice-chair Jean Augustine, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Aileen Carroll, John Harvard, Marlene Jennings, Francine Lalonde, Diane Marleau, Keith Martin, Bernard Patry.

Acting Members present: Diane St Jacques for George Baker, Raymonde Folco for Bill Graham, Val Meredith for Bill Casey.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From Emory University, Atlanta: Robert A. Pastor, Professor of International Relations. From the University of Missouri, St-Louis: Kenneth P. Thomas, Professor of Political Science. From Harvard University, Weatherhead Center for International Affairs: George Haynal, Fellow.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of North American Integration and Canada's Role in the Light of New Security Challenges (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, October 16, 2001, Meeting no. 31).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
