Meeting No. 15

Tuesday, May 15, 2001

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources met at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Gérard Binet, Jean-Guy Carignan, Rodger Cuzner, Reed Elley, John Finlay, John Godfrey, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Richard Marceau, Pat Martin, Guy St-Julien.

Acting Member(s) present: Betty Hinton for Maurice Vellacott; Mark Eyking for Rodger Cuzner.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages and Mary Hurley, research officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), An inquiry into the Crisis in Aboriginal Housing.

John Godfrey moved, - That the Chair write a letter, on behalf of the Committee to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development regarding issues arising from the Cree-Naskapi report 2000.

It was agreed, - That the research officers prepare, for May 31 2001, a report regarding reports that are submitted to the Committee and that are tabled in the House.

Reed Elley moved, - That the research officers examine successful models of developments in Aboriginal housing.

And debate arising thereon.

By unanimous consent, the motion was withdrawn.

It was agreed, - That the research officers draft a letter to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development regarding the Committee's discussions on the crisis in aboriginal housing.

At 12:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
