Meeting No. 2

Tuesday, May 16, 2000

The Sub-Committee on Organized Crime of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met in camera at 9:35 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Paul DeVillers, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Jim Abbott, Paul DeVillers, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay and Jacques Saada.

Acting Member present: Michel Guimond for Michel Bellehumeur.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lynn Casavant, Researcher; Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency: Mark Connolly, Director General, Contraband and Intelligence Services Directorate; Ray Jones, Director General, Investigations Directorate, Verification, Enforcement and Compliance Research Branch. From the Citizenship and Immigration Canada: William R. Lundy, Director, Enforcement Branch; Elizabeth Tromp, Director General, Enforcement Branch. From the Department of Justice: George Dolhai, Senior Counsel, Strategic Prosecution Policy Section; Richard G. Mosley, Assistant Deputy Minister, Criminal Law Policy and Community Justice; Michael Zigayer, Senior Counsel, Criminal Law Policy Section.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference dated Tuesday, November 30, 1999, a study of organized crime.

The witnesses briefed the Sub-Committee on organized crime and answered questions.

At 12:00 p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
