Meeting No. 12

Thursday, February 10, 2000

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Andy Scott, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Michel Bellehumeur, Carolyn Bennett, Chuck Cadman, Aileen Carroll, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, Peter Mancini, John McKay, Jacques Saada and Andy Scott.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the London Family Court Clinic: Dr. Alan W. Leschied, Assistant Director; Ned Jackson, Therapist. From the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies: Kim Pate, Executive Director; Dawn McBride, President; Kami Pozniak.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, November 23, 1999, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-3, An Act in respect of criminal justice for young persons and to amend and repeal other Acts (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, November 30, 1999 , Meeting No. 5).

Dr. Alan W. Leschied, Ned Jackson and Kim Pate made opening statements and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 5:24 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
