The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Pierre Brien, John Cannis, Antoine Dubé, Marlene Jennings, Walt Lastewka, Dan McTeague, Ian Murray, Charlie Penson, Jerry Pickard, Nelson Riis and Susan Whelan.

Acting Member present: Michel Bellehumeur for Antoine Dubé.

Other Member present: Michel Bellehumeur.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw and Geoffrey Kieley, Research Officers.

Appearing: The Hon. John Manley, Minister of Industry.

Witnesses: From the Department of Industry: Irving Miller, Legal Counsel. From the Department of Justice: Louis Davis, Senior Counsel, Constitutional Administrative Law Section. From the Department of Public Works and Government Services: Pierre Tremblay, Acting Executive Director, Communications Coordination Services Branch.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Wednesday, May 10, 2000, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-5, An Act to establish the Canadian Tourism Commission (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, May 30, 2000, Meeting No. 57).

The witnesses answered questions.

At 4:20 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:23 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Minister answered questions.

The Committee proceeded to Clause-by-Clause consideration of the Bill.
