The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Pierre Brien, John Cannis, Marlene Jennings, Walt Lastewka, Dan McTeague, Charlie Penson, Jerry Pickard and Susan Whelan.
Acting Member present: Dennis Mills for Gerry Byrne.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw and Geoffrey Kieley, Research Officers.
Appearing: The Hon. Andy Mitchell, Secretary of State, (Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario).
Witnesses: From Public Policy Forum: David R. Zussman, President; Anita Mayer, Vice-President. From the Department of Industry: Mark Corey, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations; Scott Merrifield, Manager, Policy and Planning, FedNor.
Pursuant to the Committee's mandate under Standing Order 108(2), a Review of the Competition Act.
David Zussman made a statement and with Anita Mayer answered questions.
At 4:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 4:29 p.m., the sitting resumed.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of the House dated February 29, 2000, Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2001 - Votes under INDUSTRY; and Performance Report - Industry Canada for the period ending March 31, 1999.
