The Standing Committee on Industry met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Pierre Brien, John Cannis, Marlene Jennings, Walt Lastewka, Gurbax Malhi, Dan McTeague, Ian Murray and Susan Whelan.
Acting Members present: Karen Redman for Walt Lastewka, Gilles Bernier for Jim Jones, Eric Lowther for Werner Schmidt, Michel Bellehumeur for Pierre Brien and Paul Forseth for Charlie Penson.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Gérald Lafrenière and Dan Shaw, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Marketing Association: John Gustavson, President and Chief Executive Officer. From Bell Canada: David Elder, Senior Counsel, Regulatory Law. From Canada Post Corporation: David Olson, Assistant General Counsel. From the Treasury Board of Canada - Secretariat: Jean-Pierre Villeneuve, Director, Corporate Identity and Government Communications, Service and Innovation. From the Department of Industry: Nicole Ladouceur, Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Fair Business Practices Branch, Competition Bureau.
The Committee resumed consideration of the subject matter of Bill C-229, An Act to amend the Canada Post Corporation Act (letter that cannot be transmitted by post).
David Elder and John Gustavson made statements and answered questions.

David Olson, Jean-Pierre Villeneuve and Nicole Ladouceur made statements and answered questions.

At 12:02 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

The Committee resumed consideration of the draft report.
At 12:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
