Tuesday, May 25, 1999

The Sub-Committee on Tax Equity for Canadian Families with Dependent Children of the Standing Committee on Finance met at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Nick Discepola, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Serge Cardin, Nick Discepola, John Herron, Rey Pagtakhan, Karen Redman and Paul Szabo.

Other Member present: Marlene Jennings.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Julie Cusson, Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Canada Family Action Coalition: Peter Stock, National Affairs Director. From the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (The): Bruce Clemenger, Director, National Affairs. From the University of Toronto: Gordon Cleveland, Professor, Department of Economics. From the Canadian Tax Foundation: Robin MacKnight, Director.

Pursuant to the motion adopted by the Standing Committee on Finance, dated March 17, 1999, the Sub-Committee resumed its study on Tax Fairness for Canadian Families with Dependent Children.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
