MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
Thursday, March 12, 1998
The Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in camera at 3:39 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.
Members of the Sub-Committee present: Sue Barnes, Odina Desrochers, Andrew Telegdi, Elsie Wayne and John Williams.
Acting Member present: Lynn Myers for Sue Barnes.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O’Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.
The Sub-Committee discussed matters related to the future business of the Committee and agreed that the Committee hold the following meetings:
Thursday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m. to consider the following matters: the Report of the Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure, the Draft Report on Chapter 28 (Salmon Fisheries), The Draft Report on Chapter 25 (Refugees) and the Draft Report on the Public Accounts of Canada 1997;
Tuesday, March 24 at 3:30 p.m. on Chapter 27 ( Ozone Layer Protection – The Unfinished Journey) of the December 1997 Report of the Auditor General for a second meeting with the witnesses heard on February 26, 1998; and
Tuesday, April 21 at 3:30 p.m. on the Main Estimates 1998-99 of the Office of the Auditor General of Canada.
The Sub-Committee agreed, - That the Committee hold a meeting on the Year 2000 Project in May 1998.
The Sub-Committee discussed the possibility of holding a meeting on Chapter 27 (Protection of the Ozone Layer) at a later date with representatives of various departments.
The Sub-Committee proceeded to the consideration of a Draft Report on Chapter 28 of the December 1997 Report of the Auditor General (Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Pacific Salmon: Sustainability of the Resource Base).
After consideration of the Draft Report and proposed revisions, it was agreed,- That the Draft Report, as revised, be considered by the Committee at the meeting of March 19, 1998.
The Sub-Committee proceeded to the consideration of a Draft Report on Chapter 25 of the December 1997 Report of the Auditor General (Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Immigration and Refugee Board – The Processing of Refugee Claims).
After consideration of the Draft Report and proposed revisions, it was agreed ,- That the Draft Report, as revised, be considered by the Committee at the meeting of March 19, 1998.
It was agreed, - That the Draft Report on the Public Accounts of Canada 1997 be considered by the Committee at the meeting of March 19, 1998.
At 4:28 o’clock p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
