The Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment met at
3:20 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 253-D, the Chair, Bob Speller, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: William Blaikie, Robert Nault, Charlie Penson, Julian Reed, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller.
Acting Member present: John McKay for Sarmite Bulte.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers; Dr. Christopher Maule, Consultant.
Witnesses: From the Concordia University College of Alberta: Elizabeth Smythe, Professor; From the University of Toronto: Robert Howse, Professor; From the Canadian Institute of International Affairs: Allan Sullivan, President and CEO; From Thomas and Davis: Serge Frechétte; From the Canadian Environmental Law Association: Michelle Swenarchuk, Executive Director.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference from the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade (See Minutes of October 23, 1997 – Meeting No. 4), the Sub-Committee resumed its study of the Multilateral Agreement on Investment.
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
At 5:39 o’clock p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
