Tuesday, November 18, 1997
The Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment met at
3:30 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Bob Speller, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: William Blaikie, Scott Brison, Charlie Penson, Julian Reed, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller.
Acting Members present: Bryan Wilfert for Sarmite Bulte; Ovid Jackson for Robert Nault; Bill Graham for Raymonde Folco.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Daniel Shaw, Peter Berg and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers; Dr. Christopher Maule, Consultant.
Witnesses: From the Sierra Club; Robin Round, Coalition Coordinator for the Halifax Initiative; From the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association; Steven Stinson, Director, Finance and Business Issues; From Appleton and Associates; Barry Appleton, Partner; From the Mining Association of Canada; George Miller, President.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference from the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade (See Minutes of October 23, 1997 – Meeting No. 4), the Sub-Committee resumed its study of the Multilateral Agreement on Investment.
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
At 5:06 o’clock p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
