Wednesday, April 21, 1999

The Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Sarmite Bulte, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Bill Blaikie, Sarmite Bulte, Murray Calder, Charlie Penson, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw and Peter Berg, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development: Warren Allmand, President; Carol Samdup, Coordinator, Globalization Programme; Nancy Thede, Programmes Corrdinator. From the Canadian Foundation for the Americas: Martin Roy, Policy Analyst; Lucie Lafrance, Manager of Communciations; Joël Monfils, «Institut québécois des hautes études internationales», Université Laval. From the Alliance of Manufacturers & Exporters Canada: Jayson Myers, Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist; Pamela Fehr, Policy Analyst. From the International Development Research Centre: Rohinton Medhora, Senior Program Officer; Caroline Pestieau, Vice-President, Programs Branch. From the Council of Canadians (The): Peter Bleyer, Executive Director; Anna Dashtgard, Trade Campaigner.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Sub-Committee resumed its examination of Canada's priority interests in the FTAA process (See Minutes of Proceedings of May 5, 1998, Meeting 18).

Warren Allmand, Lucie Lafrance, Martin Roy, Jayson Myers, Caroline Pestieau, Rohinton Medhora and Peter Bleyer each made an opening statement and with Joël Monfils, answered questions.

At 5:36 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
