Meeting No. 26

Tuesday, April 13, 1999

The Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, Raymonde Folco presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Raymonde Folco, Charlie Penson, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller.

Acting Member present: Pat Martin for Bill Blaikie.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw and Peter Berg, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Fraser Institute: Owen Lippert, Director, Law and Markets Project. From the Canadian Labour Congress: Dick Martin, Secretary Treasurer and President of the Inter-American Regional Workers Association; Sheila Katz, NAFTA Coordinator.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Sub-Committee resumed its examination of Canada's priority interests in the FTAA process. (See Minutes of Proceedings of May 5, 1998, Meeting 18).

Owen Lippert and Dick Martin each made an opening statement and, with Sheila Katz, answered questions.

At 5:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
