MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 10

Tuesday, June 1st, 1999

The Sub-Committee on Children & Youth at Risk of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 4:35 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, John Godfrey, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Libby Davies, Christiane Gagnon, John Godfrey, Ovid Jackson, Eric Lowther, Maria Minna and Rey Pagtakhan.

Other Members present: Carolyn Bennett and Andy Scott.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder and Bill Young Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the U.S Department of Health and Human Services: George B Dines, International Health Affairs, Associate Administrator, Health Resources and Services Administration. From the Georgetown University: Phyllis R Magrab, Child Development Center, Centre for Child Health and Mental Health Policy. From the Maternal and Child Health Bureau: Dr. Merle McPherson, Director, Division of Services for Children, Health Resources and Services Administration. From the Canadian Association for Community Living: Raffath Sayeed, President; Zuly Sayeed, Member, International Steering Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2) the Sub-Committee resumed its study relating to issues regarding the future of children and youth in Canada.

Raffath Sayeed, Merle McPherson, Phyllis Magrab, Georges B. Dines and Zuly Sayeed made opening statements and answered questions.

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
