SUB-COMMITTEE TRAVELS TO BC AND ALBERTA

 

February 26, 1999 : OTTAWA; The Subcommittee announced today that it would be travelling to British Columbia and Alberta from March 2 until March 5, 1999. Given the task of comprehensively reviewing the provisions and operation of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act, it will be visiting correctional institutions and holding public hearings.

While in British Columbia, the Subcommittee will be visiting the following correctional institutions in the Abbotsford area:

  • March 2 : Kent Institution and Sumas Centre.
  • March 3 : Matsqui Institution and Ferndale Institution.

While in Alberta, the Subcommittee will be visiting the following correctional institutions in the Edmonton area:

  • March 5 : Edmonton Institution for Women and Pe Sakastew.

Meetings will be held in each of these facilities with corrections managers, program staff, correctional officers, parole officers, inmates, and citizens advisory committee members.

The Subcommittee will be holding public hearings in Vancouver on March 4 in the Saturna Island Room of the Hotel Vancouver from 9:00 until 13:30.
