Friday, May 28, 1999

The Sub-Committee on Corrections and Conditional Release Act of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 1:03 p.m. this day, in the Delta Hotel, Opus Room, Montreal, the Chair, Paul DeVillers, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Paul DeVillers and Tom Wappel.

Acting Member present: Gilles Perron for Richard Marceau.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lynn Casavant, Researcher; Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: As Individuals: Terrence Drummond; Georgina Drummond; William Hartzog. From the John Howard Society: Paul Williams, Executive Director. As Individuals: Alice Katovitch; Jean-Jacques Ranger; Marie-Andrée Bertrand, Professor Emeritus of Criminology, School of Criminology, University of Montreal. From the "Maison d'Intervalle inc.": Patrick Altimas, Executive Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a statutory review of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 4:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
