Meeting No. 84

Thursday, November 26, 1998

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Peter Goldring, René Laurin, Pat O'Brien, George Proud, John Richardson, Bob Wood.

Acting Members present: Peter Stoffer for Gordon Earle and Elsie Wayne for David Price.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Grant Purves, Researcher Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Merchant Navy Veterans Association: Aurele Ferlatte, President; Ryan Hackett, Secretary; H. Clifford Chadderton, Consultant; Oswald MacLean, Member. From the Merchant Navy Association: Bill Riddell, President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Veterans Issues.

H. Clifford Chadderton and Aurele Ferlatte made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

Bill Riddell made an opening statement and answered questions.

On motion of George Proud, it was agreed, - that the Committee adopt a 24 hour notice period for motions, unless otherwise ordered by the Committee.

At 11:05 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
