Meeting No. 79

Tuesday, November 3, 1998

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 3:48 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

Members of the Committee Committee present: Rob Anders, Robert Bertrand, Gordon Earle, Art Hanger, René Laurin, Pat O'Brien, John O'Reilly, David Pratt, George Proud, John Richardson, Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Dr. Kenneth J. Calder, Assistant Deputy Minister (Policy); Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff. From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Jim Wright, Director General for Central East and South Europe.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing session on the situation in Kosovo.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 5:15 o'clock p.m., the Committee proceeded to the consideration of future business.

It was agreed, - That the clerk prepare a list of requests from Members to be prioritized at the next meeting.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
