FRIDAY, MAY 8, 1998


The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 8:30 o’clock a.m., this day, at the Fleet Club in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Chair, Robert Bertrand, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Art Hanger, David Pratt and David Price.

Acting Members present: Ghislain Lebel for Pierrette Venne and Wendy Lill for Chris Axworthy.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Witnesses: Rear Adm. Dusty Miller; CPO Earl Corn; WO Jim McCluskey; Barb St-John; Capt. Deborah March; Master Seaman Tim Materi; Cpl. Dane Tremblay; Joy Smith, MFRC; Capt. Sean Taylor; Cpl. Mario Castonguay.


Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of a Review of the Social and Economic Challenges Facing Members of the Canadian Forces.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 11:45 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
