TUESDAY, APRIL 28, 1998

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 3:30 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Robert Bertrand, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Pat O’Brien, John O’Reilly, David Pratt, David Price, George Proud, John Richardson and Bob Wood.

Acting Members present: Ghislain Lebel for Pierrette Venne.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Gen. J.M.G. Baril, Chief of the Defence Staff; Maj.-Gen. Wendy Clay, Director General, Health Services; Chief Petty Officer Terry Meloche.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of a Review of the Social and Economic Challenges Facing Members of the Canadian Forces – Care of Injured, Retired and Veterans

General J.M.G. Baril and Maj.-Gen. Wendy Clay made opening statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 5:25 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
