MONDAY, APRIL 27, 1998

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:30 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Robert Bertrand, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, David Pratt, David Price, John Richardson and Bob Wood.

Acting Members present: Jean Augustine for Judi Longfield and Ghislain Lebel for Pierrette Venne.

Other Members present: The Honourable Art Eggleton.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Capt. Tyrone Green; Col. Jim Calvin; Officer Cadet Scott LeBlanc; Chief Warrant Officer Mike McCarthy; Sgt. Chris Byrne; Master Warrant Officer Jim Butters; Elise Huffman.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of a Review of the Social and Economic Challenges Facing Members of the Canadian Forces – Medak Pocket.

Col. Jim Calvin, Elise Huffman, Master Warrant Officer Jim Butters, and Chief Warrant Officer Mike McCarthy made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 6:35 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
