THURSDAY, MARCH 26, 1998

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 9:07 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Robert Bertrand, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Peter Goldring, Judi Longfield, John O’Reilly, David Pratt, George Proud and John Richardson.

Acting Members present: Ghislain Lebel for Pierrette Venne.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Colonel Pierre Lemay, Director General, Compensation and Benefits; Mrs. Renée Jolicoeur, Director Accounts Processing, Pay and Pensions; and Lt.-Col. Jean-Pierre Cyr.


Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of a Review of the Social and Economic Challenges Facing Members of the Canadian Forces -- Compensation and Benefits.

Colonel Pierre Lemay and Renée Jolicoeur made opening statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 11:00 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
