THURSDAY, DECEMBER 11, 1997

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 11:40 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 371, West Block, the Acting Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Art Hanger, Judi Longfield, David Pratt, George Proud, John Richardson.

Acting Members present: Jocelyne Girard-Bujold for Maurice Godin; and Monique Guay for Pierrette Venne.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Witness: From the Department of National Defence: Lieutenant General W.C. Leach, Chief of Land Staff.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of a Review of the Social and Economic Challenges Facing Members of the Canadian Forces.

Lieutenant General W.C. Leach made an opening statement.

At 12:05 o’clock p.m., Robert Bertrand took the Chair.

The witness answered questions.

At 1:35 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
