MEETING No. 63

Tuesday, May 5, 1998

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Shaughnessy Cohen, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eleni Bakopanos, Shaughnessy Cohen, Paul DeVillers, Paul E. Forseth, Derek Lee, John Maloney et John McKay.

Acting Member present: Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral for Michel Bellehumeur.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst, Nancy Holmes, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Human Rights Commission: Michelle Falardeau-Ramsay, Chief Commissioner; John Hucker, Secretary General; Joanne Baptiste, Director, Management and Personnel Services Branch; Denis Pelchat, Chief, Financial Services.

The Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference of Thursday, February 26, 1998, relating to the Main Estimates for 1998-99 (See Minutes of Proceedings, Monday, April 20, 1998, Meeting No.50).

By unanimous consent, the Chair called Vote 10, under JUSTICE.

Michelle Falardeau-Ramsay made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 4:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
