Tuesday, February 17, 1998
The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:44 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Shaughnessy Cohen, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Eleni Bakopanos, Shaughnessy Cohen, Paul DeVillers, Nick Discepola, Paul E. Forseth, Derek Lee, John Maloney, Peter Mancini, John McKay and Jack Ramsay .
Acting Member present: Hélène Alarie for Richard Marceau.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst, Nancy Homes, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police: Chief Brian Ford, Chair, Law Amendments Committee; Bryan McConnell, Executive Director; Thomas C. Grue, Legal Counsel Office, Edmonton Police Department; Vincent Westwick, General Counsel, Executive Services, Ottawa-Carleton Regional Police Service.
Pursuant to its order of reference of November 4, 1997, the Committee continued its consideration of Bill C-3, An Act respecting DNA identification and to make consequential amendments to the Criminal Code and other Acts and of provisions and operation of Bill C-104 (1st Session, 35th Parliament) forensic DNA testing (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Wednesday, February 4, 1998, meeting No. 23).
Brian Ford and Thomas C. Grue made a statement and, with other witnesses, answered questions.
At 4:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
