The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 4:42 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Shaughnessy Cohen, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Shaughnessy Cohen, Paul E. Forseth, Derek Lee, Gurbax Malhi, John Maloney, Peter Mancini and Andrew Telegdi.
Acting Members present: Sue Barnes for Eleni Bakopanos, John McKay for Paul DeVillers, Stan Dromisky for Sheila Finestone, René Laurin for Richard Marceau and Mark Muise for Peter G. MacKay.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst and Mary C. Hurley, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From Canadian Customs Excise Union Douanes et Accise: Ronny Moran, National President; Karen Dwyer, 1st National Vice-President and Wayne Mercer, 2nd National Vice-President.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, November 18, 1997, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-18, An Act to amend the Customs Act and the Criminal Code (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, December 2, 1997, Issue No. 18).
Ronny Moran made a presentation and, with Karen Dwyer and Wayne Mercer, answered questions.
At 5:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 5:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.
The Committee commenced the clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-18.
Clauses 1 to 4 inclusive carried.
The Title carried.
The Bill carried.
ORDERED,--That the Chair report the Bill to the House as Third Report of the Committee.
At 5:42 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
