The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, John Maloney, presiding.
Member(s) of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Eleni Bakopanos, Paul DeVillers, Ivan Grose, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay, John Reynolds and Jacques Saada.
Acting Member present: Pierre Brien for Michel Bellehumeur.
Other Member present: Albina Guarnieri.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Marilyn Pilon, Researcher; Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.
Witness(es):From the Department of Justice: David Daubney, Coordinator, Sentencing Reform; From the Ministry of the Solicitor General of Canada: Mary Campbell, Director, Corrections Policy.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference dated Thursday, October 22, 1998, the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights resumed consideration of Bill C-251, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (cumulative sentences). (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, December 1st, 1998, Meeting No. 106)
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
At 5:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
