Meeting No. 61

Tuesday, May 25, 1999

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Albina Guarnieri, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Bonnie Brown, Paul Crête, John Godfrey, Albina Guarnieri, Larry McCormick, The Hon. Andy Scott and Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Member(s) present: Reg Alcock for Denis Coderre and Ian Murray for Brenda Chamberlain.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder and Kevin Kerr.

Witness(es): From the Dataquest Consulting: Grant Schellenberg.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a study on " Older Workers"

Grant Schellenberg made a presentation and answered questions.

The Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference from the House of Commons dated March 5, 1999 in relation to the Main Estimates for the Fiscal year ending March 31, 2000 and, pursuant to Standing Order 81(7), its consideration of the Report on Plans and Priorities. (See minutes of Proceedings, Wednesday, May 5th, 1999)

Vote 1 less the amount of $21,551,250 voted in interim supply carried on division.

Vote 5 less the amount of $39,585,750 voted in interim supply carried on division.

On vote 10

Diane Ablonczy moved that: "Vote 10 (Human Resources Investment and Insurance Program/Grants and Contributions) for Human Resources Development Canada in the amount of $765,926 thousand be reduced by $10 million to $755,926 thousand."

After debate, the question being put on the motion it was negatived.

Votes 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 less the amount voted in interim supply carried on division.

It was agreed that pursuant to Standing Order 81 (4) the estimates for the fiscal years 1999-2000 shall be deemed reported.

At 12:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
