Wednesday, May 12, 1999

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Albina Guarnieri, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Brenda Chamberlain, Denis Coderre, Albina Guarnieri, Dale Johnston, Larry McCormick, John O'Reilly, The Hon. Andy Scott and Maurice Vellacott.

Acting Member(s) present: Guy Rocheleau for Bernard Bigras and Pat Martin for Libby Davies.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Appearing: From the Department of Human Resources Development : Claudette Bradshaw, Minister Labour.

Witness(es): From the Department of Human Resources Development : Warren Edmondson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Labour and Head of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service; Gerry Blanchard, Director General, Operations Labour; Carole Chauvin-Evans, Director, Federal Workers' Compensation Service; Guy Tremblay, Director General, Financial Services, Financial and Administrative Services.

The Committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference from the House of Commons dated March 5, 1999 in relation to the Main Estimates for the Fiscal year ending March 31, 2000 and, pursuant to Standing Order 81(7), its consideration of the Report on Plans and Priorities.

The Chairman called votes 15, 25, 30 and 35 under HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT.

The Hon. Claudette Bradshaw made a statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 4:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
