The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Albina Guarnieri, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Bonnie Brown, Brenda Chamberlain, Hec Clouthier, Paul Crête, Jean Dubé, Albina Guarnieri, Dale Johnston, Larry McCormick, John O'Reilly, The Hon. Andy Scott, Maurice Vellacott and Bryon Wilfert.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Witness(es):From the Department of Human Resources Canada: John Knubley, Assistant Deputy Minister Insurance; Doug Matheson, Director General Insurance Service; Jacques Bourdages, Associate Director, National Service; Dennis Kealey, Director General.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of Chapter 16 (Human Resources Development - Management of the Social Insurance Number) of the September 1998 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (See minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, November 4th, 1998)

John Knubley and Dennis Kealey made a statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 5:26 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
